What the Fireplace Doctor does

Restoration and maintenance specialists in modern and antique fireplaces and wood- and coal-burning stoves. We find solutions to even the most specific or complex installations.

Servicing & troubleshooting

Keep it working

We service brick and freestanding fireplace flues and gas units, and we sort out the problems people live with for years — smoking rooms, water leaks down the flue, and units that never quite draw properly.

Replacement parts & roof seals

Specialist work

We replace or manufacture parts for old and antique fireplaces and stoves, re-seal flues at roof level, and supply the specialised glass rope that closed-system units need to stay airtight.

Installation into new or existing spaces

Flawless workmanship

New freestanding fireplaces, and units fitted into existing brick chimneys or braais. No installation is too complex, and having it done professionally protects your manufacturer's warranty.

Chimney extensions & sweeping

Perfect operation

Extending an existing chimney often fixes a draw problem outright. Sweeping clears the creosote that causes stack fires — essential, and the single cheapest piece of fire safety you can buy.

Every service ends with a 15-point safety check

Fireplace Doctor's service and chimney sweep checklist confirms that your fireplace is safe to use and working the way it should. The checklist doubles as your certificate of conformity — the record your insurer will ask for, and a standard most of the trade still doesn't meet.

Refurbished fireplaces, ready to install

A good cast-iron stove outlives several owners. We strip, repair and refurbish trade-ins and estate units, then sell them with the same installation and servicing you would get on a new one — often at a third of the price.

Stock changes constantly. Franco Belge, Morsø, Nordica, Jetmaster, Welcome Dover and more, from R7 000.

Fireplace and chimney questions, answered

How often must I have my chimney swept?

Every two to four years is best. Regular sweeping clears the creosote build-up that causes stack fires.

Must I service my fireplace?

Yes. Fireplaces should be serviced every four years to make sure they are safe to use and working optimally.

What happens if I don't service my fireplace?

Certain parts of a fireplace are prone to wear, which means smoke, heat and open flames can escape and cause serious damage. At worst, your house could burn down.

Can you help with smoke problems?

Yes. Our 15-point service checklist includes checking everywhere smoke can escape. We then advise on and carry out the work needed to make the problem go away.

What type of fireplace should I install?

It depends on the room size, the heat output you need and whether you already have a chimney. We work closely with Faitsch Products and Vulcan Heat Studio and will recommend a unit that suits your home.

What wood should I use in my fireplace?

Wattle and bluegum are best suited to fireplaces. Both burn hot and clean once properly dried.

Do you have a fireplace project we can help with?

Tell us what the fireplace is doing — or not doing — and we'll tell you what it needs. Call-outs for a final on-site quote are charged.
